In January, Pastor John Hagee, founder and national chairman of Christians United for Israel, joined Glenn on radio to discuss the theory behind his book Four Blood Moons: Something is About to Change, in which he argues the scientific and Biblical reasons Christians should support Israel.
“The four blood moons have only appeared three times in more than 500 years,” Pastor Hagee explained at the time. “A blood moon is when the sun, the earth, and the moon get into a direct alignment. And the earth is in the center, and the sun shines through the earth’s atmosphere, and the moon on the other side turns into a reddish glow.”
Last night, marked the first of four blood moons - known as a tetrad – between now and September 2015. The remaining blood moons in the tetrad will take place October 8, 2014, April 4, 2015, and September 28, 2015. Those dates have special significance to the Jewish faith. Yesterday’s moon occurred during Passover, and the October 8 blood moon will occur during the Feast of Tabernacles. The April and September 2015 moons will again align with Passover and the Feast of the Tabernacles.
The tetrad’s synchronization with the Jewish holidays has occurred three other times in the last 500 years, and those three occasions have come to carry historical significance. The first occurred in 1493/94, which coincided with the Jewish people being banished from Spain. In 1949/50 the tetrad again aligned with Passover and the Feast of the Tabernacles. That roughly aligns with the re-establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Finally, the 1967/68 tetrad began just before Six Day War.
On radio this morning, Glenn explained that he has been re-reading Pastor Hagee’s book in hopes of better understanding the significance of this lunar event. Pastor Hagee believes the latest tetrad forewarns a future “world-shaking event.” Glenn and Pat discussed that possibility.
“He believes that we are living in the latter days,” Glenn said of Pastor Hagee. In the book, Pastor Hagee points to Acts 2:19-20 for guidance:
And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke / The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come.
“Let me ask an honest question," Stu said. "What is the value in speculating on this. Does that mean you change the way you do things?”
“Because God said be watchful and watch for the signs from the heavens,” Glenn said. “I think it would change some people. You might just say, ‘Is the lord saying anything to us?’”
