Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a letter Monday to former National Security Adviser, Susan Rice, asking her to explain an “unusual” email which she apparently sent to herself on Inauguration Day 2017 — her last day at work.
What did the email say?
The email seemed to document a high-level meeting that took place on January 5, 2017, in the Oval Office with then-President Barack Obama and several members of the intelligence community. They discussed how law enforcement should carry out the investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election. Twice, the email emphasized Obama’s comments stressing he wanted to do things “by the book.”
“President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘by the book,’” Rice wrote. “The president stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book.”
Why is that a problem?
“I think that’s odd and disturbing because we know the investigation regarding the Trump campaign was anything but by the book,” Graham told Fox News Monday night. Watch more of that report here:
Glenn had to agree with Graham on this one. Why would Obama tell the FBI to go ‘by the book’ twice in such a short amount of time? First of all, shouldn’t the FBI’s investigations always done by the book? Isn’t that a given? Secondly, we now know that nothing else about this entire Russia investigation has been done by the book.
“Why would they, in one paragraph, stress how President Obama said over and over it has to be done by the book?” Glenn asked on the show today. He added, “None of this is by the book.”
