Glenn questions Sen. John Cornyn on the TEA Party, the nuclear option, and Obamacare in wide ranging interview

Glenn has certainly had his differences with Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) over the last few years about his divergence from the conservative principles he campaigned and won on. Lately, however, Sen. Cornyn has seemingly returned to form on some issues – grilling HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius over the failed Obamacare rollout and opposing the nuclear option. On radio this morning, Sen. Cornyn joined Glenn to discuss these issues and many more.

“Senator John Cornyn is running for reelection here in the great state of Texas. And he is a guy who has had a very good record. He's a guy who a lot of people have looked to for a long time and said: This guy is a good, strong conservative,” Glenn said. “We, on this program, have some issues. We don't ever expect to agree with everything anybody does or says. I think that is unreasonable. But he is joining us... I really don't want this to be a hostile interview… I do want it to be a frank conversation.”

Glenn first asked Sen. Cornyn to explain the remarks he made about FreedomWorks and some of his fellow conservative congressmen in the lead up to the budget vote. During an interview with Matt Patrick in October, Sen. Cornyn had this to say about FreedomWorks:

CORNYN: FreedomWorks is an organization that, that uses Republican on Republican violence, so to speak, to raise money. That's why they exist. They don't exist to run against Democrats. They use it to try to divide Republicans.

“I don't think that's true,” Glenn said. “What do you mean by ‘Republican on Republican violence’?”

“Well, Glenn, it's no secret that I disagreed with the tactic to try to defund Obamacare on a continuing resolution, not because I support Obamacare. My record is clear that I have taken every reasonable opportunity to try to stop it, to repeal it, to block it. But I didn't think the shutdown, which I thought was an inevitable part of that strategy, was the right tactic to use,” Sen. Cornyn said. “And I would classify this, at least in terms of the Senate itself, as sort of a disagreement on tactics among the family. What I think happened from my perspective was that Republicans and conservatives got divided and then we minimized the strength we would otherwise have by being unified.”

Sen. Cornyn had initially supported fellow Senator Mike Lee’s (R-UT) proposal that would fund the entire government except Obamacare, but he later took his name off the letter. Glenn asked him to explain his decisions.

“I reconsidered my signing of the letter and whether or not the tactic would succeed or not. So again, it was a different – disagreement over the tactics,” Sen. Cornyn said. “I didn't see any way, on reconsideration, that Harry Reid would allow that to pass or the President Obama would sign it. But I want to point out, Glenn, I did vote for the continuing resolution that came over from the House that would have defunded Obamacare. And my record is pretty clear on that, so I appreciate your giving me the chance to hopefully clarify it.”

From 2007 to 2011, Sen. Cornyn served as the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which campaigns and raises money for Republican candidates. Glenn asked Sen. Cornyn how he feels about the TEA Party and its influence, given statements he has made in the past.

“I think the TEA Party has been the best thing that's happened to the conservative movement in recent years. In 2010, we could not have picked up 7 Senate seats without the TEA Party,” Sen. Cornyn said. “And you know, like every political party, it's composed of different elements to a coalition. And my simple position is: We need the Tea Party, and their enthusiasm, and their votes as part of the Republican coalition so we can win the election in 2014, and we'll actually be able to govern by retiring Harry Reid… I think we need all aspects of the Republican coalition – from Libertarians to traditional Republicans to TEA Party, to social conservatives, to you name it.”

“Senator, we would love to have you on again. We're up against the clock, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on Iran, et cetera, et cetera,” Glenn concluded. “So if we could have you back on the show, we would love to have you. Thank you very much, Senator John Cornyn.”

On "The Glenn Beck Radio Program," Glenn Beck and producer Stu Burguiere took a break from the slog of post-election commentary to enjoy a laugh, courtesy of a New York Times article titled, "Trump's Tweeting Isn't Crazy. It's Strategic, Typos and All."

"They've exposed us!" Glenn joked. "A well-known media outlet finally had the courage to publish what we all know on the right: President Trump's tweets are not just random musings. I'm not making this up. They're secretly coded messages to his right-wing followers!"

Pfizer has announced a possible 90% effective COVID-19 vaccine, and now, with Joe Biden projected to win the election, the Left seems to be trying to make sure the former vice president gets credit for the Trump administration-backed vaccine.

On the radio program Monday, Glenn Beck pointed out how CNN and MSNBC have suddenly gone quiet about the virus, and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) even went so far as to lament that the promising breakthrough vaccine came "two months before Joe Biden takes over."

In a Monday morning interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," Cuomo told host George Stephanopoulos, "The good news is the Pfizer tests look good and we'll have a vaccine shortly. The bad news is it's about two months before Joe Biden takes over, and that means this administration is going to be implementing a vaccine plan."

He went on to add, "You have two months, and we can't let this vaccination plan go forward the way the Trump administration is designing it because Biden can't undo it two months later, We'll be in the midst of it. And I'm going — I've been talking to governors across the nation about that. How can we shape the Trump administration vaccine plan to fix it or stop it before it does damage."

Cuomo isn't alone in making plans for big changes under a Biden presidency. Even if Republicans keep power in the Senate, Biden has vowed to immediately use executive action to reverse some of President Trump's biggest victories. On day one, he's planning to take actions like rejoining the Paris Climate Accord, reversing travel bans, and overturning the current ban on federal agencies teaching critical race theory, according to the New York Times.

"This is really dangerous," Glenn said of the series of executive orders Biden apparently has planned.

"We have those things to really look forward to and I'm super, super excited about that," he added sarcastically.

'I am right by the president's side': 25-year-old Madison Cawthorn wins in NC, spurs GOP support for Trump

Republican candidate Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina has become Congress' youngest Representative-elect in decades, and the first to be born in the 1990s.

On the radio program Wednesday, Glenn Beck congratulated 25-year-old Cawthorn on his victory, but also issued a warning: Washington, D.C., has a real affinity for collecting souls. Stay strong, stay humble, know who you serve, and remember what you're fighting for.

"I'm not afraid of losing my soul just because I know who I am, and I've got a great base to rely on," Cawthorn told Glenn. "But, I do realize that there's a danger in Washington, D.C., so I'll be very cognizant of it. I have a great team around me, and I know that we'll be able to hopefully take the soul from Washington, D.C., because we need to re-put some morals, some values, and some freedom-loving fighters."

Cawthorn, who is paralyzed from the waist down from a near-fatal car accident in 2014, said he felt confident that he would be able to fight against corruption and stay true to his personal faith and values.

"My spine is reinforced with titanium, so I know it won't bend or break from the powers that be," he said. "The person that I am right now is completely indebted to the people I get to represent. And I think that's what we're missing in Washington, D.C. All these career politicians who believe in self-overservice, we have to fight against that."

"Are you concerned at all about the Republican Party?" Glenn asked. "I mean, the Republicans seemed a little quiet today. … I don't see anybody saying, 'We're here by your side, Mr. President.' [Trump] seems to be fighting alone."

"Well, I'll tell you, that's not true. I am right by the president's side. I think he's the best hope for our future," Cawthorn answered. "But I will tell you, I was not voting for President Trump when I voted on the Republican side of the ticket. I was voting for an ideology. I think that was what was on the ballot yesterday, was ideologies. One, it's going to say, 'you have to kneel to the state. You have to kneel to the mob.' They will tell you, when and where you can go to church, they'll tell you what your children can learn in school, they'll tell you if you can open your business or not. Or, on the side I like to vote on with President Trump, the person who I'm fighting in the trenches with right now, I genuinely believe that in that ideology we kneel only for our God, and stand for our flag."

On the radio program Monday, Glenn Beck, Stu Burguiere, and Pat Gray reacted to a recently leaked Zoom conference call that shows far-left leaders from organizations like ShutDown DC, the Sunrise Movement, and BLM discussing their alleged Election Day and post-Election Day plans.

One participant encourages followers to shut down federal buildings, including the White House, and to harass members of Congress who arrive in D.C. to work. The video, published by the group "Sunrise Exposed," further illustrates Glenn's belief that this election is about choosing between good and evil.
