Mika Brzezinski’s bizarre soda ban rant: Sugar is poison!

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

New York City. The day after the soda ban failed. Chaos. Anarchy.

Well, that’s the story you would have gotten if you tuned into MSNBC’s Morning Joe today and listened to the inane rantings of progressive host Mika Brzezinski. She even had the gall to look her through the camera at her audience and tell them they should be mad at themselves for continuing to buy the “poison” that is sugary drinks.

“Be mad at the fact that you buy this stuff, again and again and again, and these companies feel they have to produce poison for your and your children,” she said on air.

Glenn could not believe her comments, and pointed out that the real solutions to obesity are only going to be found by individuals taking responsibility for their own health.

“What solves the obesity problem is a society that understands where there are consequences for their behavior and are allowed to feel the consequences of their behavior” Glenn said.

In society today, people who don’t take care of themselves are being given more and more of a safety net.

“We take care of everyone, absolutely no matter what,” Glenn said.

He used the example of someone who ate so much that they became too big to leave the house and the city who would come and cut a hole in the house to get them out.

“I’m sorry, You want to live that way it’s not my responsibility. I love you, and I’ll try to stop you,” Glenn said, “but it’s not my responsibility to take care of you. To give you a stomach stapling surgery or to pull your butt out of the house.”

“If I want to drink myself silly with 32 ounces every single day I’m going to drink myself silly. But not in a society where we have to take care of our brother. We’re forced to do it and our brother is not forced to do anything in return. They just continue to take and take and take.”

Sugar is natural, GMO corn is not. We won’t even get into Aspartame you control freak little liberal.

Elections have consequences, and in NYC we see the results of a man who sees himself as a god-king and emperor over the city.

The MSM has shown their clear bias and arrogant attitude of superiority in spinning their lies, distortions, fabrications and usage of fear and terror tactics. Soon enough the next targets of the administration will be the soda-makers as the new “national health enemy Number One.’

  • landofaahs

Its about as stupid as gun control.  Can you imagine if every time a gun control bill came up that an attacment to that bill would includelaw enforcement leaving their guns at the station until they come back to duty, That every gun ban would include those that protect all the politicians and no personal security for rich people or public figures.  Watch how the elitists scream with that.  Oh, they’re special are they not.

  • http://www.artinphoenix.com/gallery/grimm snowleopard (cat folk gallery)

Mika has demonstrated how far out of control she is, and by association the entire Leftist MSM, in their fanatical drive to crush any and all opposition to their agenda of absolute control over the people of America.

  • landofaahs

How about limiting the size of bottles of kosher wine to 16 ounces?

Mika must assume that we are idiots and we are unaware of the toxicity (which is VERY mild) of sugar.  Never mind that sugar occurs naturally in like…half of all food.  We live in America, the country where you can look at a bad habit, know it’s a bad habit and DO IT ANYWAY!  I drink soda all the time.  I eat pop tarts constantly, chips like crazy, I sweeten my coffee, I smoked cigarettes for 8 years (quit thank God). I go shoot pool at a bar a couple of times a week and drink beer.  I have six packs when I watch ball games…You know why I do these things?  I’m a normal ass dude who does what he feels like.  Nobody is going to stop me from these habits but me.  People forget how grudgingly people move towards their own health at someone else’s behest.  Ask any doctor on that one.  Get a life Mika Brzezinski.  Mine has nothing to do with you.  By the way, obesity is a far less serious problem than starvation.  Some societies consider fat people to be very physically attractive because they look “well off” since they can afford to eat every day!

  • landofaahs

We can limit this kind of crap by making sure that we attach to any bill they like, something they hate even worse.  We have to turn the tables on these control freaks.

  • Anonymous

I wanted to add, that despite eating junk food constantly and consuming tons of sugar…my dimensions… 6 foot 3 and 165 pounds.  It also takes getting off your ass once in awhile to be healthy!

  • Anonymous

Sugar is poison. High fructose corn syrup is even worse. Obesity is an epidemic in this country and this country is one out of shape mess. It’s just not the governments job to tell us that or pass laws to curb it. If Bloomberg or Michelle Obama or anyone else wants to promote healthy living that’s one thing. But to pass laws or ban products to achieve that goal is a bit beyond the reach of government. Off to the gym…

  • landofaahs

Mika, there are sexual lifestyles more dangerous to health than sugar.  Do you want that banned too?

Really Sugar is poison. This has to be the dumbest statement
I have ever heard come out of MSNBC and she even beat out Chris Mathews. These people

I love Glenn, but for people with autoimmune diseases, like myself, sugar prevents any hope of going into remission.  Another issue with sweets is that they’re addictive.  However, I’m not on the side of media fanatics who use scare tactics to alter others’ eating habits.  And, no one should be scolded into a guilt trip by those in the media.

  • SoThere

If listening to Mika spew her nonsense makes me sick, then shouldn’t the government make her speak less?  If it save just on child, shouldn’t she shut up!

On the other news front, the Government is paying a Kennedy Sponsored research Organization over a million dollars for a study of why “Lesbians are overweight (FAT) and Gay men are NOT!”

No kidding, if you’re an overweight lesbian then for your own good shouldn’t the Government ban you from being a Lesbian?

Sugar is poison, and so are cigarettes. I don’t see any limit on the number of smoke I can buy (yet) However, it is NONE of the governments damned business!!!

  • Anonymous

Maybe we should limit the toxic peroxide bottle that Mika uses to dye her over-processed hair which, in turn, is obviously frying what little she has left of a brain! That would do more to solve the mental breakdown of our society than natural growing, organic sugar.  Yes, people use it to excess, but it is their choice!

  • Cheryl Lindsay

Sugar is very destructive in the amounts that people eat.  The food industry puts way to much of it in almost everything.  It is poison in the sense that it causes diabetes, heart disease, obesity etc and even cancer as cancer feeds off of sugar.  There are people who have gotten ridden of their cancer but cutting out all sugar.

So the fact that you call it “the dumbest statement ever” is more a reflection on your lack of knowledge.  Why are you and Glenn Beck making such an issue with her rant on sugar.  Glen exaggerated the rant part for sure as I found her professional and not a raving lunatic as indicated.  She has every right to be mad about it.  I am for sure.

But I do think that people have to make their own choices and that government should not tell us what to eat etc.  So I don’t agree with what the NY mayor is trying to do.  I do think they should lobby for food companies being upfront and honest with what they put in their products so people can make their own decisions.

I have told many people about how to eat healthy and they still choose not to.  I even eat un-healthy at times.  Yes it would be nice if the world was all wonderful and healthy and no temptation exited but this is an imperfect world.  The best we can do is educate ourselves and try to make as many good choices as possible.

Most of what Americans eat now is not food.. and most of what they drink is garbage… but there is information everywhere… if they want the truth they will find it..  the government is probably the reason there is so much sugar and fake sugar etc….  they need to back up and get their noses out of our feedbags…

I love Little Miss Priss who says that we need leaders, and gosh darn it, that Mayor sometimes just need to take people by the hand and show them what’s basically in “their best interest”.

I’m sorry, but even though he portends to be only a Mayor, Il Duce Bloomberg was ELECTED, he does not get to dictate to the masses his wishes because “he knows better”.

  • l.weisbrod

So if sugar is poison, then we should do away with all desserts, sugar itself and sweetened creamers as well as breads and anything else made with sugar. Why are they targeting sodas, most asinine idea ever. Don’t need big government telling me what I can eat and drink, I am responsible for myself! This stuff drives me nuts!

Suggest you put your efforts towards providing our young with better education.  Neither of you are qualified to make new laws.  Too much government is not a good thing .  Now, how about getting creative and getting funds for the arts to return to the schools that can no longer afford to hire teachers to teach.

OK. I’ve got to draw the line. You have genius in your moniker, yet start out with idiocy. I’ve got my Bachelors in Nutrition. I’ve worked for sports supplement companies. I’m a sports professional with my Grad degree. I’ve been at this for 20 years. You could say, I know a thing or two about a thing or two.

Saying that ‘sugar is poison’ is just as brainless, just as reactionary, ill-informed, & generic to make ridiculous statements like ‘fat is bad’, or ‘eggs are bad’, no wait, ‘they are good’, etc.

Sugar is sugar. Newsflash: alot of the food that you eat…your body is already turning it into sugar! Yeah, I know, surprise, huh?

The type of sugar may make a difference, but what are we really talking about here? For example, taking a teaspoon of sugar once per year is going to kill me since its a ‘poison’? What about once per month? Once per week? What amount qualifies it as a ‘poison’? What kind of sugar?

Fructose? Lactose? Starches (they get turned into glucose)?

Help me out here, oh genius.

The danger of labeling things poison (that aren’t) is that you give in to over regulation and gov’t control every time. That’s why the left was so hot on calling carbon dioxide a pollutant (that everybody reading this is exhaling right this very moment…you bunch of polluters you!).  Sugar is needed by the body as Paul pointed out. So are fats, carbs, protiens, etc.  It’s about balance. Sugar is not a poison. Try this experiment. Give a person a tablespoon of sugar, another one a tablespoon of arsenic, another cyanide, etc.  Track the results. It’s this kind of blanket statement and idiocy that lets the camels on the left get their noses under our tents.  Dump the koolaid (1 cup of sugar please) already!

  • Ruthanna Morrow

The drinks, processed foods and “low fat” nasty foods are terrible for your health.  The answer  is not to ban them.  The answer is to educate people that you may not fall over dead today but you will pay ultimately with hypertension, diabetes, cancer etc.  There are consequences to not feeding your body real and nutritious food.  As long as you buy and eat it with that knowledge it is your choice and you are free to do that.  To not spell that out for people is wrong.  They aren’t  making a choice but are ignorant to what these “foods” are doing to their bodies.

  • http://www.speakthewordnow.com Karen Rose

Sugar is  poison, but we make our own choices. But we must also warn people about the danger of many things…and give them important info on these subjects…but they must choose for themselves overall.

Should coffee, or mowing the grass, or birthday cakes be regulated by these mental midgets?  Hell no. Personal responsibility is the key.
There are so many things in this world that can kill you if that’s all you eat or drink. We are heading for war with Iran, N. Korea and eventually Russia and this is what we Americans are all up in arms about.  Geez…that bleached blond ding-a-ling needs to get a grip.  Maybe her chemical induced hair coloring agent has seeped into her grey matter.  Mike Savage is right, liberalism is a mental disorder.

I agree, the government is out of control.
I disagree, Sugar is not poison. Sugar is essential to life. Talk to any college student taking nutrition 101, it doesn’t take much to understand how sugar works. It’s in everything, from the food we eat to the molecules that make up our DNA structure.

Lets do some research here. Obviously too much sugar is not the healthiest idea. But neither is too much fish, or beef, or bread, or bananas, or (etc. etc. etc…)

  • Sargonarhes

Mika thinks sugar is toxic poison, but obviously believes the poison aspartame is perfectly fine. She must be invested with Nutrisweet. The company that years ago introduced the artificial sweetener nutrisweet. Which they don’t call it nutrisweet any more they changed it’s name to aspartame.

  • Anonymous

    When people look at
dietary facts instead of making things up in order to push an agenda, they will
see that sugar does not make people fat. There are millions of foods that
contain sugar, some sugars are natural or raw others are synthetic sweeteners.
However, sugar in itself has no fat. The foods that contain sugar normally
contain loads of different fats and calories. There is more fat in an entrée at
any restaurant than you will find in a 16oz soda. Should we ban anything that
contains fat? An overabundance of foods with fat content will make someone fat
and possibly create other health issues. Then there is another perspective to
consider. No matter what a person consumes, the person will not become obese as
long as the person burns off more than they take in. The reason kids and adults
are overweight is because they do not get enough exercise, they are consuming
more than they burn off. Overeating causes obesity, not sugar. There are as
many reasons as there are people for overeating; from psychological issues to
plain laziness. Either way the problem is not the sugar, it is our life-style.

Indeed I.weisbrod, makes me nuts too. Why do they pick on soda? A full 12 oz can of 7-UP has 40g of sugar, compare that to 8oz of OceanSpray Cranberry juice with 30g. Even Yoplait yogurt has 26g in the little cups about 6oz. Sugar is in a lot of foods but people would not eat those foods without the sugar. That includes juices of all kinds, cereal, yogurts, granola and granola bars … I would like to see some of these people who are on the sugar warpath go one day without having a single gram of sugar. That includes artificial sweeteners in their coffee and their favorite mocha blend from Starbucks.

What I think you mean is carbohydrates.  There are many different kinds of sugars, i.e. the human body reacts very differently to different monosaccharides, like fructose compared to dextrose.

Also, calories from dietary fat does not cause you to gain weight any faster than calories from other macro nutrients, that’s a myth based on flawed hypotheses, much like the flawed  “lipid hypothesis” causing heart disease.

The cause of obesity has many factors, the lack of exercise is just one of them.  Age, micro-nutrient deficiencies, genetics, and hormonal status are important factors too.

I certainly agree with the commentators who say that sugar is an essential ingredient in our diet.  I also agree that used in moderation, there is nothing wrong with it.  As a Type 2 Diabetic with a fairly mild case, I know how important it is to keep my blood sugar under control.  However, it is the LOW blood sugar episodes that bother me most!  My mother once almost died of a hypoglycemic event, so certainly this “journalist” does not know what she’s talking about.  Yes, I have seen the effects of diabetic high sugar and obesity on a former co-worker, but that is because this person did not take care of themselves.

Paul, you didn’t just equate smoking with drinking sugary beverages did you? Didn’t think so.

You’re right, you can’t write flawed laws to save people from themselves. If they are bent on abusing their bodies (drinking, smoking, sugary beverages,  prescription drugs,  running marathons, bungee jumping, skiiing, skateboarding, working out at the gym 7 days a week, etc., etc., etc) they will find a way. So why create bureaucratic nighmares trying? What’s that called, I forget…..Oh Yeah, LIBERTY!

  • Matt O’Neal

Sugar doesn’t cost more because we outsourced it. It costs more because teh imported sugar was dirt cheap and the US sugar growers lobbied Congress and had tariffs placed on imported sugar to raise it’s costs to the level of what it teh domestic producers were charging. If we could import sugar tariff free, then soft drinks and pretty much everything would have sugar and not HFCS. Crony capitalism once again.

I read an article recently that said that if ingredients listed on a label does not say. “pure cane sugar”, and just lists as sugar it is most likely a combination of can sugar and beet sugar. Most beet sugars the article claimed are genetically modified, so that would not be good for you then.  In looking at ingredients on processed foods, sauces etc over the last few days after reading the article, VERY few list any sugars as pure cane sugar or even cane sugar. Most just say sugar so I’m assuming a lot of the sugars in our food are beet sugars which are genetically modified (GMO).

Why is it that liberals seem to believe that rights are secondary to government nannying? Is it really preferable to them to be told that they can’t consume a certain food or drink rather than having the right to make the decision for themselves? The fact of the matter is that these people would NEVER tolerate intrusions into their lives, but they are all for doing so in the lives of the people they seem to regard as well below their level of intelligence. Yet, they can’t stick to facts. Instead, they speak as if they are knowledgeable experts on the science behind these claims, but they can’t even stick to the facts that are available; no, they have to call it poison. They claim that a can of soda has as much sugar as a bag of powdered sugar. Absolute bunk, falsehoods and exaggerations. Why is it that this is A-OK with the left, but they would NEVER tolerate such characterizations of their issues from the right? Because they’re arrogantly positive that they are not only correct, but even if they weren’t, it doesn’t MATTER!! Listen to them advocate lawsuits against all of these companies…”…and they’re expecting to do quite well.” What?!! Is there ANY personal responsibility out there anymore? Why does anyone bother listening to this bunk? They assume that their listeners have a collective IQ of 40, therefore, they have to have someone to tell them “no” when they don’t make good decisions, especially if they’re not using their “inside voices”.

Sorry, but speaking as a physician and a scientist, that’s just not true. Perhaps this is the journalism definition of “poison” but it doesn’t qualify in the scientific world. By the way, we don’t really use that word in science. It’s too ambiguous. The word toxin is a better fit, but there are many categories and subcategories that give specific, narrow insight as to treatment recommendations or lack thereof. Sugar doesn’t even qualify in the top ten except in the longterm. In that case, things like high fructose corn syrup are now being studied to see if there is a causal link that makes this type of sugar different from any other. Sucrose and fructose are our main dietary sugars, but ALL food is converted to glucose which is then used to power the body’s production of ATP, an energy molecule. We can run on no other energy source so saying that sugar is a poison is just incorrect. If that’s true, then cellular respiration as we know it could not exist.

By the way, how do you food police explain this (from the Latter Day Saints website):

“The Word of Wisdom is a law of health revealed by the Lord for the physical and spiritual benefit of His children. On February 27, 1833, as recorded in section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord revealed which foods are good for us to eat and which substances are not good for the human body. He also promised health, protection, knowledge, and wisdom to those who obey the Word of Wisdom.”

The difference between this and that mental midget Bloomberg (and the rest of the nanny liberals) is that this is a choice. If you don’t like it, leave the church! Continuously elevated blood sugar levels over works the pancreas and leads to obesity and/or type 2 diabetes. The blood fasting has about 1 teaspoon of sugar. A 12oz can of soda has something like 9-13 teaspoons (don’t remember off the top of my head). Half that you get about 4.5-6.5 teaspoons of glucose, and about the same fructose. Times ~3 you’ve got about 15x the fasting blood sugar in glucose from a 32oz soda. That’s a crazy amount. And it’s absorbed practically instantly. If you wanna do that to yourself, go for it. But I don’t want to be paying for your medical insurance.

Aspertame IS poison, so they took the sugar out of chewing gum and put Aspertame in it to poison our children. Fluoride IS poison, so they make sure to put it in something we put in our mouths every day [twice a day for 5 minutes?]to keep our teeth free of cavities…….. although our brains might be all cavities. Carbohydrates are converted to sugar when we eat it in order for our bodies to use it for fuel. Yes, sugar is fuel. Hmmmm…….. no wonder they don’t want us to have any, it might make us strong enough to survive the poisons they’re feeding us!      unfortunately, the misuse of the word ‘epidemic’ has altered the original meaning, which was simply about contagious diseases. Our country is not obese simply because of sugar. We are eating meat of animals fed on a diet of hormones and antibiotics, steroids and are fattened up by being penned into cages. We are what we eat. We are becoming caged fat animals. We are also heavily dosed with antidepressants which not only alter our brain chemistry, but also damage our metabolism and immobilize and zombify us, so we never burn any calories. It is not about sugar. It is bad agriculture and bad pharma combined with stupid doctors that just push whatever the drug companies tell them to.

Ginny, that fluoride isn’t only in the toothpaste you use twice a day and you can always change to a non-fluoridated variety, like Spry, Bloomberg puts it in the water New Yorkers drink and bathe in.  It is in the water that they shower in inhaling it in the steam and having it absorbed through the skin.  New Yorkers swim in, and wash their food in.  It costs New Yorkers money to buy the poison, fluoride, in the water supply, but Bloomberg does it and then goes around complaining about sugar.

Attorney Paul Beeber , NYSCOF President, says, “The National Research Council reported that fluoride, even at levels used for fluoridation, can damage bones and teeth, disrupt thyroid function, be harmful to kidney patients and that studies linking fluoride to lowered IQ and cancer are plausible.”

Good points re. where our policies have taken us. If we banned sugar altogether, food producers would move to saccharine, etc., which IMO is worse for us. I do not drink diet sodas anymore, because the sweetener does something nasty to my nervous system. I get jittery and I develop a short fuse where I’ll go off at the slightest provocation. I don’t want that, so I don’t drink it.

Mika is misguided, but I guess we all knew that. What’s disturbing is she’s SO sure of herself. She cited lawyers as the arbiters of truth on this matter, not science. I get that a lot from environmentalists re. global warming, though they’ll typically deny that and say, “Science says,” when only some scientists say what they say. Others disagree. The way I pick this up is the form of argument they use. They present it like it’s a court case, not a scientific inquiry, and they try to pass it off as fact. They mistake the fact that our court system does not present the truth. It presents different POVs and tries to ascertain the truth, and from that make a definitive decision. Science doesn’t work this way.

Mika said that anything where you can take a small dose and it doesn’t make you sick, but if you take a lot of it, it makes you sick, is a poison. Well gee, Mika, that applies to water, the most essential element that we cannot survive without. If you drink 8 glasses of water a day, you’re fine. If you drink 1-1/2 gals. of water within a couple hours, you’re going to get sick, vomit, and die within a day! No joke! This has actually happened. So by your logic, Mika, water is poison. We should ban it. Crazy!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi3erdgVVTw

The truth is If you ingest too much of *anything* it will make you sick, and possibly kill you. As toxicologists know, it’s not the toxin that kills you, it’s the dose.

I understand that you are upset with what has been happening,  but don’t let what some do taint your view of all. When someone who presents himself as a conservative makes racist comments, the left eat it up and use it to paint the entire group of conservatives as racists, which isn’t true. They, in effect, are using the same flawed reasoning against us that you are using against blacks. It is bad enough that there are leftist that play dirty because they are afraid they can’t win a fair fight, who go onto conservative sites, pretend to be conservative, but say racist things just to create a false image of their opponents. Please don’t lower yourself to their level.

The B-Vitamins have been stripped from cane sugar, to make it white. Then, when a person uses’ it, the sugar leaches’ the B-vitamins from YOUR own body- in order to Metabolize it.  sugar turns’ into ethel alcohol in your system.  Alcohol also strips’ body of these vitamins.  The B;s are essential for well-being and energy/health.  When a person replaces’ the B-complex vitamin types, the craving for alcohol goes away.  The vicious cycle is broken, where the body craves’ certain nutrients, which makes; it crave alcohol and sugar takes’ away health, by knocking OUT eighty percent of the immune system!

The pathogens that cause tooth decay use sugar as food source.>> Limit CARBOHYDRATES.<<< Carbohydrates are broken down in the mouth during the process of chewing. Digestion begins in  the mouth. Bread, rice, potatoes etc. all are complex carbohydrates, which the body breaks down into simple sugar. (Glucose, fructose, lactose etc. are all sugar, and the body metabolizes it the same. Sugar is sugar.)

Like your dentist says: "Limit sugary snacks: brush and floss after eating."

Like your primary Physician says: eat a well-balanced diet, and exercise in moderation.

Like "Mom" says: The pathway to a healthy life begins with you

Just because someone who claims to be an expert categorizes something as a poison, does not actually make them an expert. I would venture to say that my biology background is stronger than J. S. Mill. The scientific community does not use words such as “poison”. It’s inaccurate and invokes an emotional feeling that is completely devoid of factual substantiation. Yes, there are studies that link certain foods to disease, but they don’t make these types of claims. However, good, well refereed studies published in reputable journals do not comprise crusades. That is not science. There’s nothing wrong with avoiding too much sugar, but balance and moderation is the key when approaching dietary recommendations. There is no “superfood”. There is no “poison” substance that is consumed on a regular basis.

Here’s something for you to consider. When the chloro/fluorocarbon craze of the 80′s was sweeping the world, some scientists were claiming that we had killed the ozone layer and we would be baked off the face of the earth in less than 20 years. Was it true? No. Within a few years, the scientific community realized that the ozone layer over the Antarctic, far from continuing to open up, suddenly, in one year, reduced the unprotected area to less than 20% of it’s previous size. Did that stop the UN from recommending that we completely do away with these chemicals and take a step back? No. it didn’t. Why? Because now it was political and what country would be most affected economically from such a move? The US. Yet, our congress adopted all of these recommendations lock, stock and barrel. Does it matter? It probably did matter to those in third world nations from central and south American who could no longer afford to buy refrigerant. Infant mortality climbed with a high correlation coefficient to that political move to “save” the environment.
Here’s another hint that this is not science. If a scientist is a crusader, if a journalist (who is supposed to report the news, but instead, makes it by crusading), there’s something awry. Their actions will always fall under the category of “unintended consequences” because they are influencing decision making on the basis of hype, hysteria and money. We DO need to study these foods more closely. We DO need to counsel people to improve their diet, but we do NOT need to nanny them from birth to grave.

All good advice, but thanks for not recommending that we legislate people’s personal choices.

What makes kids fat is sitting on the couch all day playing games or watching t.v. instead of going outside to run and play.
The government has no right to legislate my choice of food. They only want to regulate because the inurance companies are buying their campaigns.
it’s great to educate people about good eating abits, but legislating their complianceis anti-American.

The US Congress once amended the Constitution by passing the 18th amendment…

…while it was a “noble experiment”, with the intention of stopping the horrific consequences of alcoholism on individuals, families, and the society ; many unintentional consequences developed… and the amendment was repealed.

“Banning” sugar ( in whatever form) is a dumb idea, because it cannot be enforced.

How did the 18th Amendment to the US Constitution work-out ?

     So much for “bans”.

going to drink myself silly. But not in a society where we have to take
care of our brother. We’re forced to do it and our brother is not forced
to do anything in return. They just continue to take and take and
    take.”
