Maine Doctor stops taking insurance, accepts cash only

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

It’s only a matter of time before doctors begin revolting against the damaging effects of Obamacare. One doctor in Maine decided to skip the system altogether and accept cash only. Will this be what more doctors do? Glenn has more on radio in the clip above.

So how long will it take for the IRS, DHS, and any other departments and such on the Federal and State levels to come crashing down on his head?

“Enemies of Obama and the Obama state” have to be crushed once and for all, and made into an example of what occurs to those who dare to oppose the system.

Welcome to the future of healthcare thanks liberals!

  • landofaahs

The poor will find out that health-care is only there when a doctor is willing to see you.  No pay, no play.  The wealthy will always have the first call on the limited qualified doctors of the future thanks to Obama-care.  LOL

He will not be in buissness for long. Greedy Doctor

  • Anonymous

Greedy Doctor?  Are you clueless?  The doctor can now offer realistic rates, not the fake ones that are made up because insurance companies pay pennies on the $ and the uninsured are factored in.  Are you someone who gets the “free” health care while the rest of us foot the bill.

  • Anonymous

No one offered health care. Obamagenics is a mandate to buy insurance.  It has no guarantees your insurance will be accepted.

Nice! Perhaps we will be going “back to the future” and handle transactions the way our grandparents did 100 years ago – perhaps not with barter, but by eliminating the crutch of third-party billing, which requires one or two extra employees just to wade through the morass of differing medical-insurance providers, payment terms and collections. Our family doctor (name withheld for good reason) has a two-tiered price structure, and half the time his prices are lower for cash than they are for third-party payer. Heck, I do recall as a toddler in the 1950s seeing our family doctor come out to the house to tend to my ill sister and brother. He didn’t charge a week’s pay for a visit, either

No wonder why the Obamacare legislation goes so far as to try to monitor doctors’ payment records and patient histories. The only way to force America into a single-payer, government-run  nightmare such as the UK’s National Health is to prevent “underground” transactions.

Hey stupid, you really have no clue how things work, do you? Keep spouting this kind of stuff and prove your stupidity for the world to see.

P.S. You wouldn’t know the truth if it walked up, kicked you between the legs and gave you a fat lip.

  • greywolfrs

Good for him and the people who do not expect a handout. Now that he doesn’ t hav to deal with the red tape from insurance companies and the government, he can offer services for a lower price. I am sure his business will be BOOMING in no time.

Like Glenn says the Government is about conforming while I applaud this Doctor and the stand he is taking once the Government see’s this as a threat to making everyone comply they will do all in their power to ruin him……

    “Greedy Doctor”

Are you kidding?  He is reducing prices which means helping more people who have less money.

It would seem that you are not very independent, or true, at all.

  • Mike Nelson

You’ve been on a real tear today.  Maybe you should step away from the puter for a while.

This is the same things as Medicaid giving back crap reimbursements.  Many doctors will not accept this crap and just take cash.  I was a pharmaceutical rep and many doctors BEFORE THIS OBAMACRAP, were scaling down their practices because the per member per month from Medicaid was so bad they would not accept it anymore.   Some doctors had a PMPM as low as 15 dollars a month!  That means that patient could have a hand nail and come in and be seen.  How is a doctor going to survive?  Like this doctor is doing.  Wealthy areas of the country the doctors will survive but in the Medicaid areas FORGET IT!  The doctors there will just shut it down and retire!  You ever notice the people that support this clown have a great deal of money?  Just saying!

  • Anonymous

If I were a Doctor, I would do the same thing.  We need to get rid of Obama-care and find another answer to health care.

  • Anonymous

I am thinking they will be thinking taxes.  How will that be determined – will they audit him each and every year to make sure he has paid his fair share?

  • greywolfrs

    OK

  • Anonymous

The doctor just might make out like a bandit at half price !

  • Anonymous

Why not explain it to me.

I have worked for a hospital where i had to review isurance claims by doctors. If you really knew how the system worked you would know why i said that.

  • Anonymous

The problem is because of ObamaCare he is not able to add work not done to insurance claim that why he is doing this. ut unless he is only going to practice on well to do people he will not be in buissness. Because 90% of american can’t afforadle to pay cash for a doctor.

This is the way it was done back in the day.  Doctors made house calls, got paid mostly in cash or even bartering and the system worked.  No insurance companies or government were involved.  If obamascare is allowed to stand you will see more and more of this and some of it will be done underground.  The specter of the scandal ridden IRS being partly in charge of health care, with the newly hired 16,000 “agents,” is not only ridiculous, intrusive and un-American, but will completely destroy the best health care system in the world.  Of course, that is the game plan.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4HAW7OERGSC7VZM72V7IGDJ3B4 Sharmane

Wake up dude.  The “greed” and graft you should be concerned about is the government.

  • Cameron Vance

Good for the doctor… this should benifit him…

at least until the IRS starts showing up…

So only the goverment is greedy?

does he know he cannot even see Medicare patients who are willing to pay cash for a visit or procedure that Medicare would cover. And did he know he cannot send patients who are Medicare to other Medicare providers including xray or labs as the healthcare act prohibits Medicare providers from accepting patients from non Medicarre providers including chiropractors or naturopaths

  • Anonymous

Insurance should be used as insurance, not prepaid medical as it’s typically used.  Put some money in an HSA, pay for the small stuff out of pocket and use insurance for the big stuff, like hospital stays.  That’s why I have a catastrophic insurance plan with a $3500 deductible.  The rates are cheap and the protection is better.  But that’s my world, and it doesn’t work for all.  I have family members in health care.  They argue that many of the seniors on fixed incomes and poor they see couldn’t afford to pay out of pocket and would wind up at the emergency room for small stuff, which drives costs way up.  This is a complicated problem.  I understand why this doctor doesn’t want to accept insurance or Medicare and that less overhead means lower prices. But seniors with Medicare, our nations fastest growing demographic, won’t be going to him.  People are going to go where there’s most value to them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.terwilliger.33 David Terwilliger

Worse yet is when the doctor drops all Medicare patients or face losing his license.  My chiropractor dropped me when I reached 65 because of “rules” about reporting treatment to government.  I paid $30 for visit (no insurance) vs. $40 co-pay with insurance.  And this is better?

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.terwilliger.33 David Terwilliger

    For those under 65 (Medicare).

  • Mike Nelson

How can you not see that this is the problem?  If so many can’t pay, what makes you think they will receive coverage?

Obamacare is NOT a mandate that everyone get health care; it is a mandate that everyone buy healthcare insurance.

Glenn Beck is a stooge…..he’s out their acting a complete goof on purpose….he’s a disinformation troll that disseminates daft conspiracy delusions alongside perfectly rational libertarian ideals in order to rob them of their legitimacy. Its a tried and true propaganda ploy. Used with great success by the vested interests.

This could be a good thing, after all, if they’re going to be on a cash only basis, and the patient actually sees what they’re paying they might just start to revolt against those ridiculous prices doctors have been getting away with charging.

  • Anonymous

Excellent point, RepublicAnn. Millions of people are about to have an ‘ah-hah’ moment. Too bad they didn’t have it before this crook got back into office for a second term.

  • Anonymous

It’s pretty simple, really. All they have to do is come up with some excuse to pull his medical license, and then they’ll go out of their way to publicly ruin his reputation. It’s sad, but true, our “leaders” in DC sure dropped the ball on this one.

  • Anonymous

Maybe, maybe not. I would think that it depends on his motive for doing this. If he’s the type of Doctor who puts the needs of the patient first, you’re right on, but if he’s simply unwilling to give up charging sky high fees, not so much. Doctors have sort of dug their own graves years ago by getting in bed with insurance companies and government programs, but I’m sure no one actually thought it would come this far. The problem with these type of payer systems is that someone else pays the bill, so there’s no incentive for the patient to shop for the best deal, plus the government will not allow Doctors to advertise their prices, either. If they did, it might help to bring some healthy competition into a system that could surely use it. Imagine a world where your Doctor has to actually think about making you happy with the service you’re getting or worry about you going somewhere else? It could be a real game changer, but as it is now, most insurance plans offer very little in the way of choice of doctors.

  • Anonymous

And trust me, they will find a way to do that. I applaud the courage of this doctor, but I wonder how long he’ll last. The government can always just pull his license. Maybe he’s come to the point where he doesn’t care, and he’s willing to sacrifice his career to make an important point, I don’t know. I would sure like to hear his story first hand, but I doubt we will actually get to.

I could never figure out how Obamacare was meant to curb the cost of healthcare. From what I can tell is that it’s just medicare and medicaid on steroids. The only way I can see that it could logically curb the cost of health care is by capping how much doctors and hospitals are able to charge for health care. But then when hospitals don’t get their money what they will do is go after the private insurance. This causes insurance to skyrocket. That forces more people onto Obamacare.

I mean I can go on and on about repercussion effects of this, but I’ll leave it at that.

  • Anonymous

Because the only people who should get healthcare are those with the money to afford it. Everyone else can just suffer and die.

  • Anonymous

They have plans in the bill for Lowe income people
