EXCLUSIVE: David Barton responds to those urging him to run for Senate in 2014

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

Below is a letter from David Barton responding to the recent calls for him to run for Senator John Cornyn’s (R-TX) Senate seat in next year’s 2014 mid-term elections. David also discussed his decision on this morning’s radio program.

“We’ve run all the traps, done the polling, done looked at everything. It’s a winnable race. But in all the prayer time, all the family time, consultants, all the folks we trust. Time is just not right for me,” Barton told Glenn on radio.

“Is there anything that anybody could say to you that would change your mind?” Glenn asked.

“Yeah, God,” Barton responded.

From David Barton
November 6, 2013

U.S. Senate

I am deeply honored and humbled by the heartfelt efforts of thousands of people encouraging me to run for the U.S. Senate in 2014. Citizens in Texas and across America know that our nation’s fiscal, moral, and constitutional deficits must be reversed.

I agree with the millions who say we need more constitutionally conservative leaders serving in Congress. The detailed polling data as well as the outpouring of immediate support from across the state indicate this is a race that could be won.

But as important as one seat in the U. S. Senate is, we also have generations of citizens that need to know our constitutional principles and rich heritage. Such education will result in the election of many more constitutionally-minded common-sense patriots in coming years.

As I travel the nation speaking about the founding principles of America, I have noticed a definite growth in the depth of interest regarding our moral and constitutional foundations. People are not only becoming more active in the political process but are becoming more principled and informed about how to restore our constitutional republic.

The solution to our current American crisis will come from the basic actions of our citizens studying the Constitution, voting and campaigning for good candidates, and helping reduce the size of government by personally helping those around us who are in need.

My family and I have carefully prayed about and seriously weighed the encouragement from so many people we respect who have asked me to run for the Senate. But right now, I believe my role is to continue educating, equipping, and inspiring citizens through the work we do at WallBuilders.

I thank all of you who encouraged me to enter this race. I ask you to take the time, energy, and money you so generously offered on my behalf and invest it in electing other constitutional conservatives at every level of government. Our involvement is needed now more than ever before. Our goal hasn’t changed. We each have a role to play to build a winning coalition of citizens who share a commitment to put the country on a sustainable and constitutionally sound trajectory. At this specific time my role will not be as a candidate, but I will continue to work side-by-side with you in the trenches to educate the nation, while also recruiting, training, and electing a new generation of conservative leaders.

“The solution to our current American crisis will come from the basic actions of our citizens studying the Constitution, voting and campaigning for good candidates, and helping reduce the size of government by personally helping those around us who are in need.” This says it all!! I study the Constitution-just because, and I’ve personally seen perfect strangers helping people in need. After Hurricane Ike in 2008, which I went through, people came to help with debris cleanup among other things, including the following spring during spring break, kids were spending their spring break helping people instead of having their break to themselves. To everyone who helped, I am grateful!!

Nice to see you are still upset over your leftist health care has come crashing down. You refuse to deal with reality and only use slander and insults to those who care to save this nation.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Since David Barton was caught red-handed rewriting history and never corrected his blatant revisionism, what is your definition of good and honest?

God called him a dumb little lying bitch and told him to fuck off.

David Barton is a great American, and our country is DESPERATE and crying out for leadership from people of moral integirty. That is a sad situation! But I can certainly understand Barton’s reluctance to jump into the CESSPOOL of Washington politics, knowing that he and his family would be smeared and LIED ABOUT to the third generation! Sadly, Washington, D.C. AND our government is no fit place for a decent person to be anymore.

  • Anonymous

I don’t think you Progressive idiots even WANT to get into a conversation about “rewriting history”.

  • Anonymous

We’re talking about how these days, “liberal” and “progressive” are just euphemisms for LIAR. Just look at the Great Eared One at whose altar the Progressives worship–biggest LIAR on the planet.

  • Anonymous

That is something i would NEVER admit, even if I were STUPID enough to be one (which I’m NOT), because, trust me, it isn’t something to brag about. What is “commendable” about a bunch of traitors who elected ANOTHER America-hating TRAITOR and are cheering him on while he destroys our freedoms and our country?

  • Anonymous

Typical nihilistic BULLSHIT from a BS liberal.

MORE nihilistic BS from a brain-dead “liberal”.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Did it ever occur to you to actually look up the term “classical liberal”?

There is nothing commendable about ignorance.

  • Anonymous

Gee, that’s real mature. is that the BEST you can do? I realize that your mental capacity–and therefore your vocabulary are severely limited, you being likely a product of our worthless LEFTIST public schools and all. But, really?

  • Anonymous

ANY kind of liberal is anathema to me. I blame the likes of YOU for foisting that lying Dirtbag-In-Chief in our White House on the REST of us.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

You have no idea what you are talking about and obviously wish to remain ignorant.

Your ill-informed opinion is of no value.

  • John

What is he talking about? That is a statement that has to be laughed at. The democratic party is the party of evil and liars. Ovomit has not uttered one truth since the faggot has been in office. Look up Obama’s lies on google and see how many thousands of website there are then go look at a few and see they look at the statement they show you that it is a lie. Simple yes? Show you the lie and show you the proof and all of it is verifiable. You don’t hear Tea party people do that and you don’t hear libertarians doing that. The expression goes, you can trust a thief but not a liar.

  • John

There was a recent study completed at Harvard University. A very liberal professor thought that Tea Party people did not understand science and that was why they were not liberal. At the conclusion of his test with 1600 people he found out that he was completely off base. The Tea Party people were scoring more than twice as high as liberals and with much greater depth of understanding. So it only proves that liberals are very weak minded and very easily manipulated by the brainwashing that they have been exposed for the last twenty years.

  • John

When it all comes crashing down where will you run. That is a very important question. Because we conservatives are not throwing away our guns and we are buying and stocking up on ammo. We will not look kindly on those who openly destroyed our country. Maybe you are bullet proof. The north pole is a great place for you or you could go to your utopia, North Korea.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Okay, so what does that have to do with David Barton rewriting history?

Because the left does it, it makes David Barton “good and honest”?

Your pointing to bad behavior to justify your side doing it. That is moral relativism and is neither a conservative or Biblical principle.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

If you are a conservative then you need to stop have a knee-jerk liberal reaction and stop spamming.

You assume to know my politics and in doing so are making a fool out of yourself.

  • John

I have done a great deal of research and our history is full of the evil of the democrats. From creating the KKK to three liberal communist presidents shooting down the civil rights act. Woodrow wilson took office and the day he did he fired every black executive employed in washington DC. He also fired every black employed in the White house be they maid, elevator operator or cook. FDR shot down the civil rights act twice during his presidency. Harry Truman was a grand Master of the KKK and shot down the civil rights act while in office. Dwight D Eisenhower brought up the civil rights act during his first term in office and it was shot down by a group of democrats led by Lyndon Baines Johnson. During Eisenhower’s second term he brought it up again it was shot down by a group of democrats led this time by Bobby Kennedy. And black americans vote overwhelmingly democratic, how can they be so stupid. They were very much conned, by Lyndon Baines johnson after he was forced to sign the civil rights act. The congress had enough votes to override any veto. So the demons came up with another form of slavery, Welfare and have enslaved the poor for 50 years. Of course they don’t realize that they are enslaved. Their kids have no life to look forward to and can plan on selling drugs and joining gangs.

If you were half as smart as you think you are, Skippy, you would KNOW that this is not a Democracy–it is a Constitutional Republic. Democracy–which your idol, the Great Eared One prefers–is essentially MOB RULE.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Why is the Great Eared One my idol?

Please explain your reasoning process in coming to this conclusion. Just because I hold David Barton accountable doesn’t make me a Democrat.

FWIW, since our Constitutional Republic shares many of the same principles found in a Democracy, so Winston Churchill’s quote is applicable here just the same.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Apparently you think the Founding Fathers were stupid?

    How stupid is that?

David Barton presented false evidence as fact.

Since Barton didn’t correct the errors after his book was peer reviewed, your argument falls flat about him not being dishonest. Instead he doubled down and republished his erroneous book.

BTW, your pathetic argument can also be used in defense of Obama. At the podium, Obama was just explaining how “HE PERCEIVED” the law pertaining to Obama.

Your moral relativism does not impress me and neither does your jumping to conclusions in order to slander me as a democrat.

Unlike you, I don’t give a damn about political parties or politicians or talking heads, I care about the truth and the U.S. Constitution with ALL its republican principles. Which many are explained in the Federalist Papers.

FWIW, “republican principles” isn’t synonymous with republican party; just as “democratic principles” isn’t with the democrat party.

  • H.R. PuffinStuff

You disagree with his findings, that’s your right, but it still doesn’t make him dishonest. I’m not here to defend Barton’s findings, but I will defend his 1st Amendment right.

Why should he be forced, by others, to correct his supporting evidence in the book? Like I said, it’s your choice to agree, or disagree, but it certainly sounds like you’re advocating censorship simply because you disagree. As someone claiming to be, “classically liberal,” you sure don’t sound like you adhere to the laissez-faire doctrine. To me, you sound more like a modern liberal trying to suppress any competing thought. You might want to read up on classical liberalism a little more next time, before picking it out of a book. Maybe, I’m having one of those knee-jerk reactions, again.

And if you can’t see the difference between the Barton and Obama references, then you might want to think before spouting drivel. Here are just a few of Obama’s lies: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/09/27/president-obama-lied-to-us-told-america-some-real-whoppers-about-obamacare/
Obama is purposefully misleading the American people. ACA is a recent law the president, and his staff, have full access to review in great detail. Barton is gathering details about Jefferson, who lived almost 200 years ago, for a book.

I’m amazed, with your boundless intellect, that you can’t see how hypocritical you are being. Self-reflection must not be one of your strong suits.

Blue Tail Gadfly- I respect your question. And I want to take it at face value without going into the details. You are ‘suggesting’ David Barton is [caught red-handed], and “I give you the benefit of your doubt”, I want to return your question back to you, [what is your definition of good and honest?] Just to be clear, the term [good and honest] divides your term of [blatant revisionism]. This will allow each of us to understand why you disagree with Mr. Barton. At this point, he gets the vote, not you. Please explain. To me, he is more believable. Please respond.

John I want to do two things in reply; 1 Agree, 2 express my opinion on one point you have made, you said [And black Americans vote overwhelmingly democratic, how can they be so stupid?] It’s not ‘African Americans’ it is people showing appreciation for government checks.

Calamity only heightens the awareness of people as to what is most important to them as an individual. This is why martial law is one of the first things implemented.

Yeah, I researched that a while back after hearing someone say the same thing. Problem is, the accusation is blatantly false. The actual issue was someone an activist group harassing a publisher, and claiming that he didn’t have enough sources to satisfy them. There was no error to be corrected. Seems your statement is a clear example of revisionist history though. You’ve taken an event, and revised it to be something that it never was, and are now promoting it as historical fact.

    We call that hypocrisy.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Re: “There was no error to be corrected.”

You better do some more research because you didn’t do a very thorough job the first time.

Since David Barton is part of an activist group, you slander comes off as projecting.

We are not a Christian Nation, aka a theocracy as David Barton wants everyone to believe.

Clearly I’ve done MUCH more research and study than you. Only an ignorant fool (or a liar), would actually state that this country was not founded upon Christian principles with Religion and Morality as indispensable supports thereof.

Sounds like “someone” is an activist here.. *cough* *cough*
    Revise any other history today?

Go hang out at Huffpo, your ignorance will fit in better there.

  • Anonymous

First you should ask for the specific detail of “caught red handed”. He has offered none. To make that kind of accusation, one should present full facts, references, and citations from both sides.

Thanks ucs75, I asked this question this way because I have not found one person who lays claim to the word ‘liberal’ in any form or use of the word, that give clean, crisp definition(s) of what their standards of right and wrong are’. I’m not being sarcastic either. I have read his man’s recent post’s and find nothing solid about his personal character.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Clearly you haven’t done enough research.

There is no shame in being ignorant, only in choosing to remain ignorant. So please hush and listen.

You are arguing two different things, you are talking people while I am talking government.

A Christian Nation would be a government that is respecting the Christian religion above all others by law. That is a contradiction to the First Amendment.

A representative Government, aka a republic, is a reflection of the people. If the people are virtuous then they will select men as their public officials who are also virtuous.

That is why religion and virtue are necessary supports in maintaining an honest government.

Since we are a Constitutional Republic, meaning one of enumerated powers only, the federal government cannot be a true Christian Nation as David Barton wants, let alone have been one.

That is unless parts of the Constitution were fundamentally altered.

Kind of makes sense why David Barton is joining in with others calling for a Constitutional Convention…

When the onion is peeled back, we find it all comes down to David Barton twisting the Constitution to advance his belief in postmillenialism.

  • Anonymous

Please read your first two paragraphs, and apply them to yourself.

The United States originally DID respect the Christian religion above all else. Congress opened sessions with prayers to God/Jesus. The FEDERAL government printed Bibles for use in public schools AND for the teaching of Indians about Christianity. No sect could become the national religion — but at the state level, it originally could. The understanding and proper use of language of the day meant a SECT. History illustrates this fact very clearly.

Over time the application of the law has been changed by courts, but the original foundation was Christian. Which also guaranteed others the freedom to worship or not worship as they saw fit. That is a tenet of Christianity. Share the gospel, but in the end every person has the freedom to choose for themselves.

The government never FORCED others to be Christian. Doing so would be a form of a paradox. To take God-given rights away, in the name of God…. But Christianity was central to the operation of the original, limited, federal government — as well as with each state. (Who further established official state denominations).

If I have typos in there — sorry. I’m typing quickly and don’t have time to keep going back and forth. I’ve got billing to get out today.

“How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain Meaning of Words!” – Samuel Adams Letter to John Pitts, January 21, 1776

James Madison, the chief architect of the Constitution and drafter of the 1st Amendment gave this warning about Religion and Sects being established.

“Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other Religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other Sects? that the same authority which can force a citizen to contribute three pence only of his property for the support of any one establishment, may force him to conform to any other establishment in all cases whatsoever?” James Madison 1785 Memorial and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments.

    http://religiousfreedom.lib.virginia.edu/sacred/madison_m&r_1785.html

The First Amendment is very clear:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

As you may or may not know, the 1st Amendment was added at the behest of Thomas Jefferson.

“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.” Thomas Jefferson’s Letter to the Danbury Baptists 1802

What you and David Barton say simply isn’t true.

why do you ask? are you horny?

Flag away, dipshit. Glenn Blech couldn’t give two shits and a fuck about you.

    Snitches are bitches.

“Yale law professor Dan Kahan posted on his blog this week that he analyzed the responses of more than 2,000 American adults recruited for another study and found that, on average, people who leaned liberal were more science literate than those who leaned conservative.”

    Reading is fundamental.

  • Kent

Actually, I was thinking you should be among people who understand you. You know like a get together where there are hamburgers and hotdogs cooking’, but a balloon jump would be a first.

  • HP McLovincraft

Is this a come on? Do you want me to be rough on your asshole?

  • Kent

Obviously, your ability to use the balloon jump isn’t your concern.

  • HP McLovincraft

I am unclear on your use of the term ‘balloon jump’. I know what a balloon knot is (it’s a butthole)…..are you being literal? I would not participate in either being a passenger or a jumper from a hot air balloon because of a debilitating fear of heights. I have (and this is, of course, purely anecdotal) been a member of a hot air balloon ground crew in the past.

I don’t use telephones, other than to order delivery food and make the occasional appointment for this, that or the other.

I do like hamburgers. 5 guys is my fave at this juncture of space-time. Bacon Cheeseburger with all the toppings. Cajun fries. Unsweetened iced tea.

Hotdogs are made of chicken lips and assholes and nitrites.

I like kosher hotdogs the most. I prefer them pan seared in extra virgin olive oil. I think they taste better than other kinds of hot dogs. I prefer fresh bratwurst, however.

I don’t know what ‘you” means.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Funny, I have read nothing to solidify your personal character either so what is your point other than to slander?

Excuse me for my frankness but you fallacious reasoning to further slander my character is pathetic.

I suggest you read my conversation with ucs75, you might learn that you don’t know half as much as you think you do.

But for some reason, I get the impression that you are not really interested in the truth.

  • Kent

You returned my question. Good, let’s begin to build our comparison [definition of right and wrong] for baseline character identification. I am not making accusations or slandering by the way. I am asking you specific questions.

    Kent says:
    1. No government should fund abortion.
    2. No government should defraud the rights of its citizens
    3. No government should defraud the rights of (in ref to US) independent states.

I feel these three questions are a simple start.

You said [A Christian Nation would be a government that is respecting the Christian religion above all others by law. That is a contradiction to the First Amendment.]

    That is ‘hogwash’.

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

Re: “I am not making accusations or slandering by the way. I am asking you specific questions”

But Kent said, “I have read his man’s [BTG's] recent post’s and find nothing solid about his personal character.”

Contradicting yourself is no way to prove your own character.

I not interested in comparing myself to you, that is a straw-man argument and irrelevant. Besides, anyone can say anything on the internet and too many people do, e.g. Sam Fisher.

I was the one who asked Snow Leopard to define “good and honest” since he is the one who used it to describe David Barton. The responsibility falls on him to define those terms, not me.

Since I used the term “classical liberal” and everyone posting to me had a knee-jerk RINO reaction to it, here is a suitable definition I am comfortable with:

    http://www.ncpa.org/pub/what-is-classical-liberalism

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

I wanted to separate the issues so I broke my reply up into two different parts.

Re: A Christian Nation would contradict the First Amendment is hogwash

Okay, you have shown your complete absurdity in denying the very clear language of the 1st Amendment and the words of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson.

    Goodbye

  • Kent

Why did you respond to my question? I still find no information in your reply as to your [definition of good and honest], yet this a direct question, and you say [that is a straw-man argument and irrelevant]. What are you basing your world view on then? This obviously would lend toward a notion of character. I’m sure James Madison and Thomas Jefferson gave a few clues when asked directly. You see my point?

  • The Blue Tail Gadfly

I responded to your slander, not your irrelevant questions and statements.

The whole problem is that you have no point and think you already know everything. Circular logic?

Let me reiterate what I said in my previous post.

When Snow Leopard answers my inquiry into what his definition of good and honest is, then you will know mine, which is quite obvious already.

All you are doing, besides wasting my time, is inserting a straw-man into the argument and attempting to shift the burden of proof unto me. Both by the way are logical fallacies.

You can continue practicing your mental gymnastics to get around the truth if you like, but I got better things to do.

Maybe you can try to prove your intelligence to me again in a newer thread sometime, instead of this dead one. After all, there is no since in me further wasting my time exposing your fallacies if there is no one around to learn from it.

  • Kent

How about quoting me’ on something. Then you’ll get to accuse.
