How is Mercury One supporting injured soldiers of the IDF?

by Quinn Cotter, Mercury One

What do you say to a parent who is waiting to see if their child will walk again? When visiting these hospitals in Israel, I anticipated hallways filled with sorrow, mourning, and to be honest a resentment of the world and America for how they have abandoned the only democracy in the Middle East.

However we saw the exact opposite from these people. They do feel alone in the world, but they know their cause is a just one. They know they are fighting for God and standing where they are supposed to. Over and over again we were told the soldiers only cared about being released so they could rejoin their brothers on the front lines. These people are not waiting for the approval of the world; they know they have a right to live and they know to preserve that right, they must put their lives on the line. The hospitals were full of hope for the future, not mourning of the past.

The Mercury One team met with over 65 wounded IDF soldiers on Sunday in Israel. Originally we intended to interview these soldiers, but upon arriving we were informed the soldiers have been advised to avoid interviews because they may be held responsible for war crimes if they travel abroad to other countries.

The world has abandoned Israel. We heard over and over again these soldiers do not think Americans care about them. They think they are the villains of the world for defending themselves. Many of these soldiers, just teenagers themselves, are sitting in hospital beds watching the news attack them for the protecting their own country’s safety.

Because of your support, Mercury One is meeting with these soldiers and reminding them they are not alone. While everyone one else is condemning Israel, this audience has a presence on the ground taking a stand for faith and democracy. These people love America and support from the United States means so much to them.

Thank you for your donations. I can tell you these soldiers are not waiting to learn from the rest of the world, but instead the rest of the world needs to learn from the courage of Israelis.
