Matt Lauer’s Behavior at NBC Was Reportedly an Open Secret

What happened?

Variety published a disturbing report Thursday about the allegations against longtime news anchor Matt Lauer, who was abruptly fired on Wednesday. His NBC office reportedly had a button under the desk that could lock his door from the inside without Lauer getting up – a feature he allegedly used to trap co-workers.

Did Variety have more details?

Yep, a lot of them. Women have come forward to describe how Lauer exposed himself to them, continually made lewd comments about their sex lives and made the office a terrible place to work. He once gave a sex toy to a co-worker as a gift along with an explicit note about how he wanted to use it on her.

Variety reported:

He once made a suggestive reference to a colleague’s performance in bed and compared it to how she was able to complete her job, according to witnesses to the exchange. For Lauer, work and sex were intertwined.

Glenn’s take:

“Like Weinstein in Hollywood, this wasn’t a secret at NBC,” Glenn noted. He wondered how many more abusers will (rightfully) be exposed. “It’s time we hold accountable those who have engaged in this kind of behavior,” he said.

GLENN: The Matt Lauer fallout continues. In a statement released just a couple hours ago Lauer said quote:

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC. Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.”

Details are beginning to emerge on Lauer’s behavior. A Variety story published yesterday disclosed years of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior. There were quote “dozens” of people that came forward to corroborate Lauer’s actions. Similar to how all of Hollywood knew about and was complicit in Weinstein's rain of terror, can we not say the same thing about the brass at NBC? NBC News chairman Andy Lack stated that Monday night was the first time they had ever heard about Lauer’s behavior. Are we seriously supposed to buy that?

According to Variety, Matt Lauer had multiple consensual relationships with women he held power over, sent a sex toy to a female colleague, exposed himself to employees, and reprimanded a subordinate for not engaging in a sexual act with him IN HIS OFFICE. Like Weinstein in Hollywood, this wasn’t a secret at NBC. It sounds like nearly all of 30 Rockefeller Plaza had heard this was going on.

There’s obviously an epidemic of perverts in our society, but it’s time we hold accountable those that have enabled this type of behavior with their silence. Evil triumphs when good people say and do nothing. If you’re an executive or manager that knew all this was going and turned a blind eye, you carry guilt right alongside Lauer.

WATCH: Trapped by the Taliban: One Woman’s Escape from Afghanistan

On the morning of Aug. 15, Asma was a free woman in Kabul. She wore Western clothes. Traveled safely alone. Attended college in a neighboring country with the money her parents had saved. By that evening, her entire world had changed.

For the first time in her life, Asma was confronted with the reality of the Taliban. The horror stories she heard growing up were no longer the nightmare of her parents' generation. They were hers, too. Faced with the impossible decision to stay with her family and risk imminent torture or death, she chose to live, and take on the Taliban face-to-face.

Asma's bravery also led to the rescue of over 150 Afghan college women. She tells Glenn she was willing to die before she let the Taliban take her or the other women. But she didn't do it alone. Her sister Azada, helplessly watching the horror unfold from the U.S., quickly turned to her father's contact list. What follows is a miracle evacuation story that ends with a sisters' reunion and hope for a new future. These brave Afghan sisters have a message for those in their home country still trapped, for the leaders of this country, and for the men and women in uniform (and their families) who may believe the American sacrifices for Afghanistan were in vain.

Finally, a note about the other heroes in the rescue story. The movement of the seven buses of college women into the Kabul airport was a chain with about 8-10 links. Had any one of those links not been present or broken, the young women would not have made it into the airport for evacuation, and three young women taken by the Taliban would not have been recovered.

THE GLENN BECK PODCAST

'Welcome to Anarchism, Glenn' | Michael Malice | Ep 121

Buckle up, this one is a wild ride. Author of "The Anarchist Handbook" and podcast host of "Your Welcome" Michael Malice wants to burn it all down, peacefully and with a smile. "My rights are NOT up for discussion," he tells Glenn. He explains why his version of America will save America. He and Glenn also discuss why corporate media is shrinking, why Boomers love Martin Luther King Jr., how Trump earned the spite vote, and why gun control is officially solved. But how does anarchism solve the China problem or potential nuclear threats? Somehow, he has the answer. He also tells Glenn how a concept like Blaze Media brought down the Soviet Union and why, in spite of anxious talk of "national divorce," he has so much hope for the future.

INSANITY: High schooler ARRESTED after not wearing mask at school tells her story

On Thursday's radio program, Grace Smith and her father, Andy, joined Glenn Beck on the phone and provided a first-hand account of Grace's refusal to wear a mask at school.

Smith, 16, began a maskless protest after her school district in Laramie, Wyoming, decided to implement a mask mandate. As a result, Grace received three suspensions, was issued two $500-citations, and was eventually arrested.

"How long were you in jail?" Glenn asked.

Grace said was taken to jail but was never booked nor was she was placed in a jail cell.

Glenn commended Grace's father, Andy, for raising such a "great citizen" and asked if it was Grace's idea to protest. Andy said it was Grace's idea, explaining that they took the position of arguing on the grounds of civil rights rather than the efficacy of wearing a mask.

Grace has since withdrawn from public school and started a home school program. She also told Glenn that she will continue to fight the school district, legally.
