Counting down the top Glenn moments of 2013: Celebs making headlines for the right reasons

With Glenn on vacation for the holidays, we’re counting down the top Glenn moments of 2013. What were this year’s highlights? Stay tuned to the Glenn Beck Newsletter to find out! Sign up for Glenn’s free daily newsletter HERE.

We’re kicking things off with one of the biggest stories on TheBlaze.com this year - a story that ended up being quite surprising to Glenn and most viewers – Ashton Kutcher’s acceptance speech at the Teen Choice Awards. Wait… why is THAT the biggest story of the year? In front of a crowd of adoring teens, Kutcher gave a stirring speech about the value of hard work, kindness, and generosity. The message went far beyond the teeny bopper crowd in attendance and ended up setting the internet on fire.

Check out Kutcher’s speech below:

Kutcher wasn’t the only celeb to make a splash talking about these values – Mike Rowe, host of The Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs, did too when he joined Glenn to talk about the widening skills gap in the United States, the worsening student loan crisis, and the ever-changing perception of a what constitutes a ‘good job.’ Mike is looking to challenge the stigmas and stereotypes surrounding ‘alternative education’, and in a gripping hour of television, talked to Glenn about how he is trying to do that.

Of course, not all of Mike Rowe’s fans liked that fact he was teaming up with Glenn to share his message, and he received hate mail from many intolerant liberals. Usually when the Alinsky mob goes after someone, they cower in fear. But Rowe responded to the attacks with an epic takedown.

Glenn shares Rowe’s response and offers his own thoughts below:

BONUS TOP CELEB MOMENT: What did John Wayne say about liberalism in 1975 that has even greater significance today?

We need more Mike Rowes John Waynes and Ashton Kutchers in the world and less Obamas.

    Mr Fisher,

May I expand on your saying and include “along with no more progressives.’

    Ashton has grown up!

  • FirstShirt

Wow. I kinda like this guy Aston Krutcher…

I always liked Ashton Kutcher…. but after listening to this… I RESPECT Ashton Kutcher. Great Thought Provoking Speech… I hope the students in the Audience Absorbed it!!

Mike’s discussion on four year degrees and universities and such really clicked when I remembered that a friend of mine, who wants to go into computer repair as a career because that is what he has a passion for and is good at and enjoys doing, found out two years into school that the major he was pursuing was actually a business management degree and that computer repair simply did not exist as a degree program through a four year school. He had been swindled into going to college and throwing thousands of dollars at a degree that, when you really look at it closely, means absolutely nothing!

    how come? vasectomy? or lobotomy?

You could see that Ashton knew what kind of crowd he was talking to, the young impetuous and distracted. You could tell he knew that, because he knew enough to keep it interesting with the common key words like “sexy”. which draws their attention. Beck is right, they weren’t listening, but then again, like a person who is asleep and hears a conversation.. they actually WERE listening, they just weren’t paying very much conscious attention to it. but they heard it, and it sunk in on some level, and that’s why he did it. So good on you Chris. You did a good thing in using your popularity as a medium, to see that your fans can make the best of themselves. I cant think of a better gift for the holidays, than words of wisdom for those who really need it.

Public figures are only the result of choosing the most popular person to promote a general concept. we need more people who work and live like Mike and John, and less people who vote who think and live like Obama.

Goes right along with that whole notion about; don’t spread my wealth, spread my work ethic. :o) There were some kids that were most definitely listening. One of my kids was paying attention to this message. It caused her to seek advice from her mom and grandparents.

As a writer and in the genre of Artist, I never understood other artists. Especially Hollywood’s elite. They made huge money. And I don’t want it. They earned it believe me, as the Artist world is a brutal one.
What astounds me is that most side with Marxism once they make the grade. Matt Damon comes to mind. It is nice to see a few that do not apologize for their wealth and state it was the result of hard work. Usually years.
Unfortunately people these days are entirely too influenced by what the Artist who is successful has to say. If we had more Patriots in Hollywood we would be a lot better of a country than what we are turning into. As Art reflects life.

just how does glen and mike figure they are successful? what is the measure of success? nothing they do or have done is hard or will help anyone but himself.
the reason the america is screwed is because people are as shallow as glen and mike. what have they give to people as a whole? we got the pleasure of watching their point of view! mike degrades all the people he works with. i find shame watching him put others with hard jobs down as he laughs at their hard work?

who will be on those streets of gold? those are the winners. i bet you will know none of their names before they are told to you by the person himself.
what is good has been changed as has what is right.

let us see how well it works out for you glen and mike. forever is a long time boys…
